Biography
Attracting considerable attention across Europe
and the US with her illuminating interpretations of
wide-ranging repertoire, the Romanian-born French pianist Alexandra Silocea possesses a highly refined musicianship.
During the worldwide pandemic, Alexandra was invited in December 2020 to step in at a five day notice with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Vladimir Jurowski at the Royal Festival Hall London, performing the European premiere of Elena Kats-Chernin Piano Concerto No. 3 "Lebewohl", the concert being streamed on Marquee TV. After having had her debut at the Enescu Festival 2019 with the Academic State Symphony Orchestra of Russia "Evgeny Svetlanov" and Vladimir Jurowski, Alexandra returned to the Enescu Festival in September 2021 with Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin and Vladimir Jurowski with Stravinsky "Les Noces". In 2023, she is returning for the third time at the Enescu Festival, this time with the "G. Enescu" Philharmonic Orchestra and Conductor Alexandre Bloch with the Romanian premiere of Fazil Say Piano Concerto "WATER".
Pre-pandemic highlights were concerts with the Oulu Sinfonia and Leo McFall in Finnland, return invitations with Meininger Hofkapelle and Philippe Bach, as well as Schubert's "Winterreise" with the singer Matthew Rose at the Mahler Festival.
During the season 2022/2023, Alexandra is returning to Meiningen with conductor Anton Lubchenko, debuting with the Radio Chamber Orchestra in Bucharest, Vorarlberg Sinfonieorchester in Feldkirch and Bregenz with conductor Leo McFall. 2023 marks also the collaboration with contemporary composers. Alexandra is recording a CD with works by Norwegian composer Martin Romberg in March 2023. Chilean composer Luis Saglie is writting a Piano Concerto for Alexandra Silocea, to be performed in Chile and Australia with conductor Alejandra Urrutia.
In search of reaching new audiences, Alexandra is the creator of a new concert format: "Klimt meets Bösendorfer - The Tree of Life", a concept combining solo piano music, poetry and an exceptional limited edition Bösendorfer grand piano. The concept concert had its premiere at the National Gallery Vienna (Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna), on the occasion of Gustav Klimts 160th birthday and featured at the Opening Night of the "Meisterstrasse in Residence" at the London Craft Week. February and April 2024 the concept is presented at the Heidi Horten Collection in Vienna, Alexandra performing with acclaimed actors, Nicole Beutler, Peter Windhofer and Mezzo Soprano Ruxandra Donose.
Described as a 'special talent' (International Piano Magazine), with 'musical grace and fluency' (Gramophone), Alexandra is working with orchestras such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Academic State Symphony Orchestra of Russia „Evgeny Svetlanov“, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Montreal Chamber Orchestra, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Haydn Orchestra Bozen, Gävle Symphony Orchestra, Kymi Sinfonietta, Meininger Hofkapelle, etc with conductors such as Vladimir Jurowski, Jakub Hrusa, Leo McFall, Alexandre Bloch, Philippe Bach, Pablo Gonzalez, Gerard Korsten, Christian Badea.
Alexandra has been invited to festivals such as the Enescu, Ravinia, Dvorak, Brighton, Ryedale, Mahler Festival, her concerts being live broadcast by the BBC Radio 3, Radio France, ORF, Mezzo, Marquee TV and has performed in venues such as the Vienna Musikverein and Konzerthaus (both in recital and concerto appearences), Carnegie Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Bridgewater Hall and Wigmore Hall, the latest for a four hands appearence with her mentor, Elisabeth Leonskaja, at the 70th birthday-concert of the acclaimed pianist.
Born in Romania, Alexandra Silocea started her musical education in Bucharest, before being accepted at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna at the age of 16. She later continued her studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris.
She receives constant and significant artistic guidance from
Giuseppe Ravì from Respiro e Movimento®,
Elisabeth Leonskaja, Maria Jõao Pires and for many years in the past from the late Radu Lupu.
Alexandra has been appointed Professor of Piano at the Conservatory
Friedrich Gulda School of Music Wien.
Three recordings have been released so far on Avie Records: Prokofiev Piano Sonatas 1-5, “Sound Waves”
and a chamber music album with Cello Sonatas by Prokofiev,
Shostakovich and Enescu.
On social media, Alexandra Silocea reaches millions of people with her formats such as "Discover" (Bösendorfer pianos), "Did you know?", "Unwrapping a Bösendorfer", "Behind the Scenes", and collaborates with renowned institutions such as the Heidi Horten Collection, Wien Museum, Schönberg Center, Mozart House, Gustav Mahler Society, Belvedere Museum, Belvedere 21, Lobmeyr, Meisterstrasse, and Barry's Juwelier.
